WONDER

Wonder

I began reading the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio to my reading classes today. I only had time to introduce the book and read chapter 1 - Ordinary. In this chapter, Auggie, the main character, lets us know how badly he wants to be just an ordinary kid. What exactly is an ordinary kid and why do you think it's so important to Auggie that he is seen this way? Let me know what you guys think!

    1. I think maybe the author doesn't tell us what Auggie looks like yet because she wants us to "get to know" him before we "see" him. Just like everyone else, maybe we would judge Auggie before we really gave him a chance. What do you think?

    2. Maybe. Mrs. Kirby has a good idea too.

  13. I really wish that Auggie told us what he looks like. It's driving me nuts! The farting nurse part really cracked me up.

  19. I'm really interested in this book! I wonder what his face looks like. I'm sure it's not too bad. I mean, he seams like a nice person, so he's at least pretty on the inside.

  21. Hi Mrs. Kirby. I really like this book so far. I think Augie wants his face to be just like everyone else's, because people wouldn't see him as wierd if his face were normal. He just wants good friends that will always be with him and apreciate him just the way he is. I think it is wrong of him to wish he looks like everyone else, because it's good to be different sometimes. He should see himself as special and unique, not wierd. everyone should respect Auggie just the way he is.

  22. If good smelling gases put people to sleep, then I guess bad smelling gases wake up doctors who are unconscious in the middle of delivering a baby!

  23. It's funny imagining that farting nurse yelling "STAY CALM!!!"

  24. Hey mrs Kirby! I'd really like it if we could kind of rush in class so we could read more! Oh, and I wouldn't be scared of auggie. I'd be very nice to him and try to make everyone else be nice to him.

    2. You are right even though he's different in person he's still the same as us inside

    3. I know! Just because his face is different doesn't mean that he isn't a living breathing person!

  31. I think the people that are Auggie's friends are so nice because they did not think he was weird. And they were not afraid of him or anything. It is sad, though, that his best friend moved away. Isn't it?
