What do you think Ivan's plan is?

Why does Ivan promise Stella he will take care of Ruby when he knows how hard the promise will be to keep? How does Ivan know that Stella is gone before anyone else does? Do you think Ivan will be able to keep his promis?

ANIMOTO BOOK TRAILER PROJECT

We have started a really cool project in class. We are using a web application called "Animoto" to create book trailers for books we have read as a class. We had a choice of 6 books and whether to work alone or with a partner. After filling out brainstorming sheets about the books and learning how to correctly save images into our files, we finally got to start working on the book trailers yesterday. We are choosing an appropriate style and appropriate music for the book trailer along with choosing images and text that will entice people to read the book. 

It's really neat to watch the trailers come together. When they are finished, they will look like they were professionally done. 

If you are one of my students reading this, share your trailer with someone in your family (even if you aren't done with it yet). They will be impressed. 

If you are a parent reading this, ask your child to share the book trailer with you. You won't be disappointed!

We have now read to page 89 in THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN. A baby elephant named Ruby has been brought to The Big Top Mall. Ruby is afraid, but Stella makes her feel better and takes care of her. Ruby begins to adjust to her new surroundings and becomes more comfortable. She is full of curiousity about the world around her and is always asking questions. 

Stella's foot is hurt and infected. George, the janitor, points this out to Mack, but Mack doesn't seem too concerned. 

We have spent a lot of time getting to know these characters, but we don't really know what the main conflict or problem is yet. What do you think it's going to be?

We have begun reading THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN and have read to page 55. We have met the main characters, Ivan, Stella, Bob, Mack, and Julia. What do you think of the book so far? What do you like and dislike about it? What do you think will happen?

We are getting ready to start a new read aloud. This is the Newbery Award Winning book for this year. I have just started reading it, so I don't know a lot about it, but I have heard it's good! I can't wait to find out!
