Here are some images students drew as they visualized August as described by his sister, Via. The pictures were not meant to be mean or funny in any way. We had all been wondering what Auggie looks like. Why do you think the author waits until so far into the story to really give a good description of Auggie?

I think the author wants us to get to know Auggie before we see his face and make a judgement about him.
ReplyDeletei agree with that
DeleteI agree as well! She probably wants us to get our mental picture and our opinions about Auggie and when she finally reveals Auggie it might be like, i thought that all along! But it could also be, wow! I sure wasn't expecting that!
Deleteit wont let me look at the picture....
ReplyDeletewho knows how to look at them????
ReplyDeletewhere are the pictures ???????????????????
ReplyDeletecant see picts
ReplyDeleteI think the author waited so we could get to know Auggie first. If we knew what he looked like from the start,. then we might not have liked him as much. I think it was good of the author to do that.
ReplyDeleteRight! If we knew what Auggie looked like, then every action he did would seem different to us then it is right now! We wouldn't have had a chance to really get to know him, without his face!
DeleteI definitely agree with Claire.
ReplyDeleteme too
Deleteola
Deletei think to the author wanted us to imagine what aggie looks like and i also agree with eli
ReplyDeleteI think that Auggie is going to get more friends and will become a good friend to others.
ReplyDeletei agree with u ryan
Deletei wonder what will happen to Auggie and Via now?
ReplyDeletei think that the author waits until the middle of the book to tell us what he looks like so that we could get to know auggi so that we don't think he is like a freak and also so that we will keep reading on into the story
ReplyDeletehi MrsKirby

ReplyDeleteTyler,
DeletePlease make sure your posts are about WONDER.
I am sorry that you guys can't see the pictures. They show up on my computer! I spent about 30 minutes taking pictures of your drawings, emailing them to myself, and then copying and pasting them into my post. Does anyone know why they won't show up for anyone but me?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't tell what the third one on the top
Deleterow was. Whoever drew it did it with an extremely
light pencil.
Mines up there i feel sad for auggie
ReplyDeleteI thought Auggie's school would ban masks.
ReplyDeleteThat would totally mess up the plot thought.
Whoops sorry! I meant though, not thought.
DeleteWow! I just saw the pictures, and there are so many different faces! I mean, I knew they were all not going to be the same, but there is just a huge variety!
ReplyDeleteI think the author waited until the middle of the book to tell what Auggie looks like because the author wanted us to get to know Auggie for who he really is before we know what he looks like.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I think I fixed the pictures. Hopefully you can see them now! Thanks to Mrs. Mueller, my daughter's reading teacher, for telling me now to add the pictures correctly.
ReplyDeletei think that the author waited for so long so when we new what he looked like we wouldnt underestimate him
ReplyDeleteI think the picture in the middle row, that is in between two pictures looks most like Auggie. Th=at is how I imagined him.
ReplyDeletei wish that the author would have shown a picture of auggie in the book or maybe a drawing !!!
ReplyDeletemy picture is on
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Auggie that he gets teased about what he looks like! I mean I have seen the pictures and they may be different, but it's not a laughing matter!
ReplyDeletei wonder if one of those pics looks like auggie
ReplyDeleteThe way people think of Augie are probably excaggerations. It was sort of smart to not show what Augie looked like because if they did know it would ruin the story.
ReplyDeleteTotally, you're so awesome, Ian!
DeleteYeah! You're the greatest person in the the world, Ian!
DeleteI want to know what Auggie really looks like! I bet it's not that bad!
ReplyDeleteWhen I imagine August I sort of imagine a sort of zombie face, but other times I imagine him totally normal.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ian you are so awesome, I totally can connect to this!
DeleteOut of all of the points of views I think I liked Jack's the most. It seemed easier to see how the other kids in school feel about Augie.
ReplyDeletewow i read all of you guys's answers and all of them are true
